Lot of friends of mine are fans of Italy football team in this World Cup game. The day after Italian team lost the game, I had lunch with few of my football fan friends. One guy said “Italy broke my heart, I have very bad mood today, won’t watch any game in this year’s World Cup. I comforted him, take it easy guy, even Italy is gone, but there are still some famous teams like Spain, England, Brazil and Argentina…. well, keep watch though. That guy looked into my eyes said, you are the fake football fan, the true fans should always support one team forever!!
Fake football fans? I never thought myself being as such kind of fan for football. I used to support the Chinese soccer team since 1990s, but as the Team disappointed on many occasions, I began to watch the five major European leagues. I used to get up in the middle of the night watch FA Premier League; Serie A, etc., Well, I know quite a few players and also know what the offside means, Am I still a fake football fan? After that I did some Internet search :
What is the difference between the true fans and fake fans ? Letz figure out :
True fans will always support their favorite team and fake fans only support which team is stronger and keep changing! True fans predict victory or defeat with a brain, fake fans always predict game by listening other peoples’ option. True fans watch game, fake fans watch players.
True fans watch all the games, even the most boring ones, however fake fans are only willing to watch goal and shot highlights, such as after one long night stay up for one game but no goal by the end; fake fun saying : “shit, not even one goal ? waste my all night”. The true fans would be still proud of the game and enjoy the game, even there wasn’t any goal scored at all!
True fans will be very familiar with their favorite team’s player’s name, position, formation, tactics, style, history etc. Fake fans can’t even remember exactly which player belongs to which team. True football fans have a very strong quality and theoretical knowledge about their own favorite teams and the players. No matter how low the team or the players perform, they will always continue to support their side. Fake fans are always supporting for the popular team who always win. Some of them don’t even know the rules of the game, about which is offside!!
If I take an example of Cristiano Ronaldo, his true fans would have all the details of the small things in his day to day life or even his birth details, however fake fans would only be interested in his controversies in Manchester United. True fans even would go ahead and write some good article or comment on some wonderful read, but fake fans would only abuse our favorite players.
So, I couldn’t’ stop wondering about real fans or fake fans, does it really matter? This year, I cried for Ghana! When I saw some fans holding the banner saying “Ghana makes Africa Proud!” I was really touched !
I clapped for JAPAN football team, even if it is never been my favorite team. I still love Messi, even Argentina is already gone ! I celebrated for Holland football team when the world was sad for Brazil.
Maybe, yes I am not the true football fan, but so what, I think, the REASON TO WATCH football is to be happy, to enjoy the process, to support your country, to feel the real beat of FOOTBALL! And to be sad or happy with the player together. Therefore, I will continue my passion, to enjoy the World Cup as a FAKE FOOTBALL FAN!
